Waste Calculator

How Much Energy Could You Generate?

This tool calculates a variety metrics concerning VLS’s Waste-to-Energy (WTE) operations and engineered fuel production. Based on user data that is entered into the tool regarding waste weight, the tool calculates the energy content of the waste, Natural Gas and coal energy and emissions equivalents, and landfill emissions that are avoided.

Your Inputs

Enter an amount of solid waste in the field below to calculate the benefits of WTE disposal.

Results

*Resulting values are based on average waste profiles and industry standard variables. Data can only be used as a guide. Your actual carbon emissions and tonnages can vary from the data presented here. For more information, please reach out to info@vlses.com.

Legend

  • MMBtu = Metric Million British Thermal Unit (one Btu = amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit) (** use Btu not all caps BTU)
  • CO2e = Carbon Dioxide equivalent; the number of metric tons of CO2 emissions with the same global warming potential as one metric ton of another greenhouse gas (calculated using Equation A-1 in 40 CFR Part 98)
  • kWh = Kilowatt Hour (one kilowatt of power for one hour)
  • Short ton = 2,000 Pounds
  • MT = Metric Ton
  • CCF = 100 Cubic Feet
