Fueling Innovation, Driving Sustainability
Welcome to the future of energy. Our Alternative Engineered Fuel (AEF) program transforms non-hazardous secondary materials from industrial and manufacturing processes into powerful, reliable fuel sources. By converting waste streams into energy, we provide an innovative, industry-leading alternative to traditional fossil fuels. This approach not only helps you power your operations but also moves your organization closer to its sustainability goals, reducing landfill waste and preserving natural resources for generations to come.
A Cleaner Fuel
Our process results in zero ash. Cement kilns are unique in their process of emissions control as 70% to 75% of the raw material to make cement is limestone. This limestone continues in process and is encapsulated in the cement, which means no ash on the back end, whereas typical Waste-to-Energy facilities have 20-25% ash destined for landfill.
Our process results in reduced emissions. Kiln temperatures are hotter than Waste-to-Energy facilities. With high combustion temperatures, long residence time, and a natural scrubber in limestone, cement kilns burn at a 99.99% DRE (destruction ratio efficiency) of contaminants.

A Fuel for Every Application
- Alternative Engineered Fuel (AEF): A high-BTU fuel made from non-hazardous dry materials such as industrial discards, fiberboard, wood, textiles, plastics (except PVC), paper products, packaging, and rubber. Materials are shredded and blended to create a reliable alternative to fossil fuels, ideal for cement kilns, lime kilns, and other combustion processes.
- Kiln Ready Blend: A custom blend of our AEF and Fuel Blend products, typically mixed in a 50/50 ratio but adjustable to customer requirements. This blend ensures optimal feed and energy value for cement and lime kilns, providing flexibility and performance consistency.
- Fuel Blend: Produced from non-hazardous liquids and semi-solids, including sludges, industrial liquids, used oil, oily waters, filter cakes, latex residues, and carbon black. These are solidified with sawdust and other absorptive materials to produce a dense, flowable engineered fuel suitable for kiln and combustion applications.
Transforming Turf into Sustainable Energy
Did you know that used artificial turf, once seen as destined for landfills, can now be recycled into fuel for cement kilns and gasifiers? Thanks to our dedicated team of environmental experts, materials like artificial turf are repurposed into sustainable fuel sources.
Here's how it works: Post-game, the worn-out turf is recycled. It arrives at our facility, where, through our advanced processes, it's converted into a viable fuel source. The energy for your next barbecue could come from the same turf that witnessed your winning goal.
This is not just recycling; it's a sustainability revolution. Our expertise at VLS Environmental Solutions is turning waste into valuable energy resources.
